Why getting too much sleep might kill you Sleeping-woman

We all know that not getting enough sleep is bad news for your health, however new research suggests getting too much sleep increases your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

People who get under six hours sleep a night, or too much (10 hours or more) are more likely to have coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

According to a new study of over 54,000 participants, published in the October issue of the Journal SLEEP, adults should aim for between seven and nine hours a night.

'Sleeping longer doesn't necessarily mean you're sleeping well,' Dr. M. Safwan Badr, president of the Academy of Sleep Medicine explains. 'It is important to understand that both the quality and quantity of sleep impact your health.'

'A healthy, balanced lifestyle is not limited to diet and fitness; when and how you sleep is just as important as what you eat or how you exercise,' he added.
