Lack of commitment from serious scientists to Malaysia's flora

It is regrettable that since the deaths of Professor Corner, Kostermans and Kochummen, no scientist of their caliber has taken their place. The Flora Malesiana Project turned out to be a playground of European Ph.D. seeking botanists who have never shown any serious,lasting commitment to the flora of the region. It seems to me that one of the most important center of biodiversity is just been used like a prostitute to gain titles. Is it so different then from the 18th century when playing Adam in the fields of the Lord, to name the fruits of Paradise was the aim of most European botanists? Is the curse of the capital "L" still with us, or it is just Post Colonial hangover of Dutch and British scientists who still look upon the region as "The White Man's Scientific Burden" ?
